Most homeowners find out about a rebate after the new furnace is already in, or learn that their installer wasn’t listed for the program. BC rebates have real rules: approved equipment lists, licensed and registered contractors, commissioning photos, pre-approval codes and application windows.

How claiming a BC rebate works
Four steps. The order matters more than anything else. Most rebates are lost at step 2.
- Check before you buyConfirm the program is open, your home qualifies (age of equipment, fuel, income if relevant) and whether you need a pre-approval or eligibility code.
- Choose a qualifying installerMost programs require a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member listed for that rebate, and TSBC-licensed for gas work. Verify it on the HPCN directory.
- Install and commissionThe system must match the program’s equipment list. For dual fuel, the contractor submits commissioning data and old/new photos in the DSMAlly app on site.
- You apply and get paidYou submit your own application with the paid invoice, usually within six months. Processing takes up to 90 days.
