What is the newest BC rebate?
On October 15, 2026, FortisBC re-introduced its dual fuel heating system rebate (up to $4,000, or $8,000 income-qualified) and income-qualified rebates for water heaters ($2,500), thermostats (up to $200), ventilation (up to $2,400), insulation (up to $2,000) and windows and doors (up to $7,500).
Can I get a heat pump rebate for my gas-heated home in the Lower Mainland?
Yes, through the FortisBC dual fuel rebate (heat pump plus new gas furnace) or, for income-qualified households, the CleanBC Energy Savings Program. The standard gas-to-heat-pump rebate ended April 11, 2025.
Do I apply, or does my contractor?
You apply, usually within 6 months of the paid invoice. For dual fuel, the contractor also submits commissioning data and photos through the DSMAlly app.
Does any contractor qualify?
No. Most heat pump and dual fuel rebates need a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member listed for that rebate, and gas work needs a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor.
Do I need approval before installing?
For the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, yes. FortisBC income-qualified rebates recommend a pre-qualification code.
Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant still available?
No. The Greener Homes Grant and Loan are both closed.
What is the new federal heat pump rebate?
The National Heat Pump Rebate, announced October 8, 2026: up to $10,000 for households below median income and $2,000 for others. It is expected to open in early 2027.
Do I pay PST on a heat pump?
Heat pumps have been PST-exempt in BC since 2022, while gas heating equipment is taxed at 12%. Confirm current status with the Ministry of Finance.
Can I combine FortisBC and CleanBC rebates?
Generally one primary space-heating rebate per home. Bonuses and rebates for other upgrades (insulation, windows, water heater) can be added.
What are the income limits?
For a household of four: Level 1 up to $94,900, Level 2 up to $118,600, Level 3 up to $189,800 (Level 3 is for fuel-switching only). FortisBC income-qualified limits match Level 1.
Does an emergency replacement qualify?
FortisBC excludes warranty and insurance replacements, and the old furnace must be photographed for commissioning. Call us before signing anything.
Is there a rebate for replacing a gas furnace with a new gas furnace?
Not as of 2026, as far as we can confirm. Replacing a 15+ year-old gas furnace with a dual fuel system earns up to $4,000, or $8,000 if income-qualified.
How long does a rebate take to arrive?
FortisBC says up to 90 days after a complete application.
